Well, my birthday is coming up in about a month. I don't know how much money I'll be able to
leech off my parents spend, but hopefully enough to buy some much needed art supplies. I've had the same 120pck of Prismacolor pencils for at least 5 years now, and I am low on so many colors. I haven't been able to find all of them sold individually. I think this time around I want to buy a set of Polychromos pencils. I've found that Prismacolors tend to break easy. Not the lead, but the wood, it just splits and the pencil is useless unless I have tape lying around.
Ever since I first tried Bristol paper back in High School (2006 maybe), I have not been able to use regular sketchbook paper. I just can't. My colored pencils just don't blend properly on anything other than Bristol or something equal to its quality. As an artist, I should be able to make it work, but I just adore Bristol, it's amazing paper. Plus, I use markers to fill in big spaces so I don't wear down my pencils, and Bristol is thick enough that the markers won't cause it to get soggy or rip. I have a lot of sketchbook paper, but I rarely sketch. I just draw and color.
I don't have much drawing skills (in my opinion anyway), but I absolutely love coloring. I'm not that great at it, but better than I am with drawing I think. I took many art classes in High School, but drawing bottles, fruit, flowers, and random inanimate objects was so boring. I know it was to teach many different things about drawing, such as light sources and proportions and all that, but damn. It was boring. I just wanted to draw what I felt, so I did, with or without the teacher's permission.

I have many "How to draw" books, but I don't think I ever once used them. I just can't seem to follow things like that, I need to do it my own way, even if it looks wrong. (Proportionately I mean, I always start with the eyes, then things get kinda lopsided from there... In art, there really is no right or wrong.)
Typing about all this makes me want to upload some art right now, but I'd rather wait 'til I finally get up out of my hole and start working on some new art and writing my story. I hate to upload a bunch of work, and then have my account sit forever without updates. As for my story, I'm still developing characters, but I need to start doing it on paper. I only have one drawing of Crucerein (well two actually, but one is from 2004, and I've changed him a lot), and it's just a sketch. I started to color it, but it wasn't drawn on Bristol, so it kinda went downhill. Plus I used the wrong colors because halfway through I decided I want Crucerein to be an Albino Wolf, not just a regular White Wolf. In the original drawing of him from 2004 he was a Red Wolf. If you search Crucerein here on dA, you can find the original drawing that was uploaded to a Group account.
Back on the subject of my Birthday, I also hope to maybe buy some Copic Markers as I have been using Sharpies ever since I ran out of Prismacolor Markers. When the time comes, I'll probably only be able to buy some Micron inking pens, a small set of Copics, and some Bristol. I've written all this here as a reminder to myself. I visit dA quite a lot, and stare at my empty page hoping I can fill it up soon.
